Lake Wampanoag
Found Lake Wampanoag on the map and saw that there were no trips to it entered here on MAFF. I researched the lake on the internet and decided to check it out. Access to the Lake is very easy if you go to Camp Collier.
Launched from Camp Collier at 0615 this morning. The sun was just making it's way over the treeline. There was some fog on the water and the place is really pretty. Paddled out from the boat ramp and headed north. Paddled to the back side of a small island and saw baitfish on the surface. The water was about 5 ft deep. I threw a crank bait and slowly retrieved it, nothing but weeds - switched to a KVD Paddle tail swim bait. The lure hit the water and about three seconds later a bass pounded it. Set the hook and brought him in. He was close to 3 lbs. Saw baitfish swirling a longer distance that I can cast a plastic swimbait, so I cast a lipless crankbait past where the baitfish were. Reeled the lure back and another bass spanked the lure. Set the hook and brought him in too. Another 2+ lb'er. Two over 2 lb'er on back to back casts...I was loving life, of course thinking how much I was going to love fishing today. Then the baitfish were gone, not a sign of them.
One of the good things about checking out new water is you know nothing about what works, where they are, how to catch them. You go, you explore and you fish. Trying to figure out where they re and what they want. I caught a couple more small bass and too many pickerel. But all in all - I like this place. Going to be fun to go here again.
