The Beaver River is a tributary of the Ohio River in western Pennsylvania in the United States with a length of approximately 21 mi (34 km). It flows through a historically important coal-producing region north of Pittsburgh. The Beaver River is formed in Lawrence County by the confluence of the Mahoning and Shenango rivers at a point approximately 3 mi (5 km) southwest of New Castle. It flows generally south, past West Pittsburg and Homewood, roughly parallel to the border with the state of Ohio. It receives Connoquenessing Creek west of Ellwood City and flows past Beaver Falls and New Brighton. It joins the Ohio at Beaver and Rochester (flowing between these two cities) at the downstream end of a sharp bend in the Ohio approximately 20 mi (32 km) northwest of (and downstream from) Pittsburgh. In the lower reaches near the Ohio River, the Beaver cuts through a gorge of underlying sandstone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaver River (Pennsylvania)
Nice Crappie can be caught right behind the Ford Garage in the town of Bridgewater during February/March. It is sort of ugly and typically muddy, but where else are you going to load up on crappies in February? There is an old bridge abuttment in the location. Try tying on two split tail jigs and use light line as long casts are needed. Just slow retrieve and jig should catch fish.
The ranking score is used to determine how "popular" a trip or location is. It is calculated based off of a weighted average of the number of reviews and the user ratings. For example, a location with 2 reviews and an average rating of 5 will have a lower "ranking score" than one with 10 reviews and an average rating of 4. This is because even though the first location has a better average rating, it has not been reviewed as much as the second location, so it is not as "popular". In the future we may modify the ranking score to take in additional factors, such as the number of views, comments, and photos.
